Corner view Málaga: Contrasts

The theme for this Wednesday corner view is contrasts. I think that I have been showing you quite many pretty photos of my corner.

This time I will show you a contrast to all the prettyness.

This one I call Garbage with a View ... and it's taken on one of the back roads leading down to the sea  from my place.

You can actually have a rest halfway down ... or up.

In urbanised areas owners are paying for the garbage removal trough their taxes. Here there are garbage containers, and it is also possible to separate some of the garbage. Large garbage, like sofas or matrasses or televisions you usually place next to these containers and then with regular intervals it is removed by the townhall. In between garbage collections it can be quite messy and smelly.

Actually, I do not know if there are garbage dumps for the public around here as I am used to from Denmark. If you are interested, you can jump over to Julochka's post An organized mess to see how the dumps work in Denmark.

For more views on contrasts, head over to Spain Daily or find the links on this page's siderbar.

  1. That's a militant and terrifying way to show us the truth... and a true expression of what contrast can be !!!

  2. They do have this propensity to put garbage next to the garbage cans or under them here...and I'm not talking about furniture or big stuff that won't fit in. I guess some people are 'too cool' to walk over and put their empty can or candy wrapper INSIDE the garbage cans.

  3. alas, but it happens everywhere.
out of sight, out of mind is what everyone seems to think plus no-one wants to pay removal charges so, yup, unfortunately a very common view.

  4. Terrible... Here, in Marseille, there is a strike of the street sweepers since 10 days... Could you imagine the streets ? We need (everywhere), to reduce our garbage. C'est URGENT. Thanks for this corner Dorte.
    I like you !!!

  5. I think is something related with education. People don´t want to...and that is the result.
Here, things are a bit better, but there are things like that. People leave the bags next to containers instead of opening them and putting inside.

  6. Yes, sadly this is an all-too-familiar view. I agree with Cabrizette, all of us, around the world, need to reduce our garbage. Thanks for the powerful, truthful corner view.

  7. Garbage piling up next to the big dumpsters near our apartment has been one of my big complaints for awhile. I understand putting something big like a sofa there, but we have neighbors who will carry out bags of food waste and packaging and leave the bags next to the dumpster. I just don't understand. If a person has taken the time to carry the bag that far, why can't they open the dumpster lid and throw it in. It can't be a lack of education, because there are ads on the radio and television about recycling and we live on a university campus.

  8. The first photo made me sad to know how much trash is being accumulated in the world. I do like the second photo of the cans. Thank you my friend. xo

  10. oi, looks like they have the same "just dump it somewhere i can't see it" attitude as is common in israel. it is shocking what people just leave behind in remote places. or at the beaches, parks or nature sights.

  14. Yes, as everyone points out, a very realistic contrast. Amazing how we can all relate to it in our different corners. This would be an interesting and yet as you say not so pretty, topic for a CV theme.
I have a blog (found in japan) devoted to 'garbage' I pick up; I turn it into something 'pretty'. It's easy to do with just one or a few things, but with the whole heap it really is a problem that needs to be looked at.
Thanks for choosing to show the contrasts we don't always want to see.
(you have such a good eye for aesthetic, that even your photos on this topic are still pretty nice!!)

  15. That is a very familiar site in many North African and Middle Eastern cities too. Libya is the worst. They have had to import owls to kill the thousands of rats breeding on the garbage-strewn streets.
