Corner view Málaga: Staple food

A quick look in my kitchen drawers. Here you can find stuff like noodles, rice, areparina, rye flour, dried craneberries, raisins, mustard, almond powder, prawn crackers, lentils, and pinto beans a.o. Not particulary Spanish nor Danish, I guess.

These days it is so hot though that I don't really feel like cooking. This is when Gazpacho (by the litre) from the fridge is great.

I have never made it from scratch as the one they sell around here is really good. If you sprinkle the soup with some chopped green pepper, cucumber and onions and serve it with some fresh bread you have a nice light meal for a hot day.

Check out more staple food around the world. You find the links on Spain Daily. Next wednesday the theme will be PLACES OF REFLECTION ... WHERE YOU GO TO JUST BE ...

  3. I love gazpacho -- my husband is a chef and makes a wonderful version (that he claims is authentically Spanish as he made it for the King!)

  5. Do you mind telling me where you buy your rye flour? I've been looking for this unsuccessfully and must be looking in the wrong places. :(

  8. Murasaki: I don't remember the name of the shop, but I bought it in a "health" shop in Arroyo de la Miel. You know, a shop that sell stuff like bodylotions, shampoos etc. based on herbs, and teas and grains and alternative medicine. There are quite a lot of those shops around here. I can check out the name of the shop for you, if you don't find one closer to you that sell rye flour!

  10. They don't sell ready-made gazpacho here. Too bad. I love it, but have only made it myself a couple times in my life. Man, it sounds good!
