Shooting animals

The project for May in the Flickr group "La Vuelta al Mundo" was Animals. Ok, I don't have any pets and I really didn't feel like spending time in a zoo, so I imagined that I would not be participating with anything except a few photos from the my archive like the cute llama, the cat with the yellow eyes and the goose with the beautiful orange beak.

But then I came across a beautiful red parrot living in the Casa Colon in Las Palmas de Canarias, some sheep, goats and pigs in a beautiful park in Vienna and finally  yeasterday, the emu in a park close to my home in Málaga. Have you ever heard the sounds that the emu makes?  I can tell it sounds weird, kind of like burps ...

Jackie Rueda is making a list in her blog Casi en Serio with links to all the participants who have been shooting animals this past month. So head over there if you want to see beautiful photos of animals around the world.

Indoor days ...

I have committed myself to take a photo every day for 365 days. This is now 148 days ago and so far it has been quite fun, a learning process. It's also going to be a nice way of recording a year, our year in Vienna.

As the weather has been so unstable lately, I have been taking quite a lot of indoor photos, also to make sure that I had my daily photo.

Today, it looks like it's going to be quite sunny, so I'm getting out very now.

Have a great Friday.

Corner view Vienna: End of Street , part II

In the previous post you saw the green part of my street. This is the evening traffic on the four lanes in one direction.

Good night.

Corner view Vienna: End of my street

The corner view theme this week is End of your street.

The street I live in in Vienna is a very busy road that can bring you halfway round the city. The other halfway round the city is the Danube river. I know, the photos do not give the expression of a busy road, but there are, apart from the two bike lanes, four car lanes one way and four the other way as well as a tram lane and the U-bahn track in the middle.

More corner views.

Seeing Vienna from a mountain top ...

Sunday we walked up Leopoldsberg. The view from up there was so beautiful. We had to rush back down though with a very dark thunder cloud at our backs ... we got into a tram just as the rain started pouring down.

Weekend time ...

I just read in the newspaper that so far it has been the coldest May in Vienna and that there have only been two days  without rain. Even the snails want to get indoors.

This one has been climbing the stairs in my building for several days now. The close-up photo was my photo of the day one week ago and I called it A long way to go. Well, here you can see that there are quite a lot of steps to climb  :)

Have a great weekend. Here it will be a long one as Monday is a holiday too.

Corner view Vienna: Collecting books

This week's corner view theme is collections. Well, I am not a collector, but I love books and I used to have a lot of them. Then I started to travel and live in different countries. After my books had crossed the Atlantic a couple of times, I stored them in boxes. When I moved to Spain some years ago, I gave away most of them.

However, I am slowly developing a collection of books again in my home in Málaga. There are great bookshops here in Vienna and everytime I go home, I bring back books :)

The photo above is from last month when I visited the bookshop in Kunstforum with my daughter. She is hiding behind the bookshelves.

If you want to see more collections around the world, visit Jane's blog, Spain Daily.

By the river

Weekend is over ... Saturday spent by the Danube. We had a dinghy sailing lesson. It was great fun, and a little scary as there was a lot of wind until rain started. These small boats can move really fast :)

Rest of the weekend was indoor time ... dark, rainy and windy. Maybe thats why I felt like trying out black and white photos.

Have a great week.

A beautiful park

Not far from the centre of Vienna you find this 354.000 sq m park, Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark, which is so beautiful right now with its blooming azaleas, a.o.

I took these photos some days ago when it was nice and sunny, which it is not right now. It's pouring down and grey. Hopefully the sun will come out again soon.

Have a lovely weekend no matter how the weather is going to be :)

Corner view Vienna: one cute statue

This week's corner view theme is statues and fountains. I have decided to show you this cute little elephant standing in front of the Museum of Natural History (Naturhistorisches Museum) in Vienna. I havn't been inside the museum yet, but one rainy afternoon I will go. Among the attractions are the 5.000 year-old figure of Venus von Willendorf and a skeleton of the giant dinosaur Diplodocus or a head of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

For more statues and/or fountains around the world, go to Jane's Spain Daily.

Images from Sta. Cruz

24 hours in Sta. Cruz de Tenerife gave me the impression of a charming mixture of an old, new and colorful city.

Back in Vienna

I'm back from a wonderful sailing holiday. We started out from Las Palmas de G. Canaria to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and then San Sebastian de la Gomera. We only stayed about 24 hours in la Gomera, which I had looked forward to exploring, but the weather forecast was indicating that it was better idea to head back to Las Palmas again where we spent some windy days relaxing.
