I'm member of a cool flickr group "Vuelta al Mundo" that each month has a theme. I havn't been very active, but this time I would like to give it a try. The theme in July is Summer.
July has been so hot in Southern Spain that I have not relly felt like getting out to take photos during the day, but more like relaxing by the pool or staying indoor with the aircon on. The evenings though have been perfect for at walk in the streets of Málaga or along one of the many beaches.
To me, this July has also been about delicious fresh fruit and vegetables from the local markets,
and a too short visit to Denmark ...
where I discovered that my kids each had a tattoo made!
Tomorrow starts vacation time and I will not be around very much until September.
Have a great August!

Corner view Málaga: Best kept secret
I`ve Got a Secret!
I've got a secret! Oh, I've got a secret!But I made a promise I wouldn't repeat it.
I've got a secret! Yes, I've got a secret!
But I took an oath and I vowed I would keep it.
Nothing and no one can make me reveal
this wonderful secret I swore I'd conceal.
No form of torture can make me disclose,
this secret I promised I wouldn't expose.
From now until doomsday my secret I'll keep;
I won't breathe a whisper or utter a peep.
Unless you assure me that you'll keep it too -
then maybe, just maybe, I'll share it with you

I found this cute poem while I was thinking
Well, Málaga area / Costa del Sol has something for all tastes, I guess. On this blog, I try to share stuff that I like or find funny or beautiful, etc., BUT if you want to visit this place one day, and if you are not into discoteques, bars and sun bathing all day, then don't come in July or August.
I'm not really into the above and we are going away for some time in August - sailing! We are just counting the days now :-)

Corner views will be back in September. Have a great August!

What does it mean?
This little aeroplane flies up and down the coast and passes by my terrace several times a day during summer.
I have no clue to what the banner says or what language it is - I know a few it isn't! Do you understand it?

Do you know this lady?
I was at a concert with Cesaría Évora in Málaga's Teatro Cervantes ... two Sundays ago. (Time passes fast these days, I think).
Cesaría Évora is from Cape Verde and became an international star when she was 47 years old - that is 20 years ago.
La Diva Aux Pieds Nus (The Barefoot Diva) is the name of one of her albums.
You can watch/hear her singing Besame (the only song she did in Spanish) on this video. I love that song, and she does it so well :-)
Have a great weekend!

Summer garden shadows
A day in the Danish countryside
This house will probably be demolished, but right now it is covered by the most beautiful climbing rose.
A little withered already though.
A view to the sunny field.

Summerdays in Copenhagen
The air is about 25 C and the water is maybe 20 C. It looks like it takes some courage to jump in.
On the strip along the Black Diamond (Royal Library) you can sit in the deckchairs and look at the boats passing or the people on the other side of the canal.
I am off to the countryside now and no internet. Will be back in blogland in some days.

Danish artist at CAC Málaga
CAC Málaga - Málaga's museum of modern art - is located in the old Wholesalers' Market of Malaga - a square with very little shadow on the left bank of the mouth of the River Guadalmedina.
The historic building has 6000 squares metres of total surface area, of which the 2400 square metres are for exhibitions.
This summer CAC Málaga presents an exhibition with the Danish artist Tal r. I really like much of his work and I went to see the exhibition last Friday.
The installation - Teenager Beach - is created especially for CAC Málaga with a selection of his recent work.
The museum's café invites you to have a coffee or cold drink before going out in the city sunlight again.

Colorful friday
It is mercadillo (market) day again around here. This is the place to spot colorful hats too!
Click on the Color Carnival badge for links to more colorful photos. Have a great Friday!
Now that we are about colors, have you checked out professor Akiyoshi Kitaoka’s amazing dizzying illusion pages ? (should you feel sick or dizzy observing the pages you should leave them again immediately).
The blue and green spirals on the image above is the same color. The orange goes through the green part, but not through the blue part. I came across her site via TEDBlog.

Corner view Málaga: Places of reflection
This week's corner view theme is "places of worship ... or places of reflection. A place you can go and just be".
Well, in my corner we have Europe's largest Enlightenment Stupa - a buddhist monument for peace, prosperity and harmony and it's also a place for meditation.
Inside, the stupa has a 100 sq metre meditation room and a room for exhibitions.
The stupa symbolizes Buddha's enlightenment, the realisation of the nature of mind.
The building is 33 metres high.
I'm not a buddhist, but I have visited the place a few times - it is a very beautiful and tranquil place for reflection.
The stupa has its own homepage and there you can read o.a. that "stupas are normally closed monoliths, which believers circumbulate and express their wishes as being in front of Buddha himself. To absorb its beneficial influence into our lives it is recommmended to walk around the Stupa in a clock wise direction. Buddhists believe that wishes done near a Stupa may become true."
If you want to find out more, take a look at the stupa homepage.
Check out more Places of Reflection around the world. You find the links on Spain Daily.
Next wednesday the theme will be The unveiling, showing your true self ...

River shadows
July and August is too hot around here for mountain walking, except for a walk in the Rio Chillar in Nerja about 50 km East of Málaga. These shots are from last Sunday.
You walk in water and this is really nice when the air is above 30 C. Just make sure that you have shoes on that may get wet.
The vegetation along the river is very pretty. Plenty of blooming oleanders a.o.
By this small waterfall you usually stop and have your picnic. You can climb on a little while further, but the walk in the water stops here and you go back the same way anyway.
Oh, it would be nice walking in the river today. We are experiencing el Terral these days - a very strong and hot foehn wind so staying indoor with the aircon on is for once pleasant alternative to anything outdoor.

7 things about ... me
I have been tagged by Ötli to list 7 things about myself:
So here we go:
(1) Spain is the seventh country I live in. I was born in Denmark and lived there all my childhood. I have also lived in Peru, Colombia, Phillipines, Thailand, and South Africa for shorter or longer periods of time.
(2) I have visited 31 states (13.7%) and I won't mind at all visiting a few more. Create your own visited map of The World
(3) I have lost count of how many places I have lived, but I usually remember things by remembering where I lived at a certain time.
(4) I am married for the second time - this time for keeps :-).
(5) We have 4 wonderful children (2 each - 2 girls and 2 boys). All of them are now more than 18 years old.
(6) I hate to feel cold. I prefer temperatures around 30 C, but a little cooler at night is ok. My husband likes to tell people that even in Bangkok I felt cold when he was almost having a heat attack.
(7) and as for last on this list, hmmm - I don't owe a hair dryer - today I borrowed my husbands new hat to cover those impossible curls!

Shoes in all colors
Friday is the day of the local Mercadillo (market). Here you can find all sorts of stuff.
Like these dancing shoes for little girls
or what about a pair of plastic clogs. Not as elegant though for dancing, but there is in fact something called clog-dancing :-)
Click on the Color Carnival badge for links to more colorful photos.

Corner view Málaga: Staple food
A quick look in my kitchen drawers. Here you can find stuff like noodles, rice, areparina, rye flour, dried craneberries, raisins, mustard, almond powder, prawn crackers, lentils, and pinto beans a.o. Not particulary Spanish nor Danish, I guess.
These days it is so hot though that I don't really feel like cooking. This is when Gazpacho (by the litre) from the fridge is great.
I have never made it from scratch as the one they sell around here is really good. If you sprinkle the soup with some chopped green pepper, cucumber and onions and serve it with some fresh bread you have a nice light meal for a hot day.
Check out more staple food around the world. You find the links on Spain Daily. Next wednesday the theme will be PLACES OF REFLECTION ... WHERE YOU GO TO JUST BE ...
