End of October

The flickr group La Vuelta al Mundo (Around the World) photographic challenge in October was The park (El parque).

I got a lot of fresh air walking (and photographing) parks in Vienna.

Take a look at the group page as there are really great photos and interpretations ...

Post edited August 2010. More photos in my flickr set.

Corner view Málaga: Water

Every time you hear a fire engine around here you get quite worried. Andalucía is so dry most of the year that the risk of wild fires is very high.

Every year, one of the last days in June - right before the school holidays start - two fire engines rush down our street with their sirens on. They get in to the school yard and all the kids are let out and ... well, you can see on the photo that they have quite a fun time.

Time for soup

It's Autumn and hokkaido pumpkin is in season - both here in Málaga and  in Vienna where Körbis soup is on the restaurants' Today's menus.

Here is a really simple and tasty way to prepare it:
1 small hokkaido, 1-2 small onions, 4-5 cloves of garlic, 1tsp sambal olek or fresh chili, ½-1 l of water + vegetable stock (depending on the size of the hokkaido).
Peel the pumpkin, onions and garlic. Add the rest and cook for about 20 min. Blend and add creme fraiche or cream (optional) and serve with toasted pumpkin seeds e.g.

Trying out a new layout ...

I have been playing with a new layout template I found here and now is the time to try it live ...It is very different from the previous layout - first of all, with a very dark background that I hope will look nice with the photos.

Exiting to see how it will behave and if you will like it.

Corner view Vienna: Dreaming

This week's corner view theme is My dream.

Sometimes, it would be nice with some more space ...

or a beautiful and well maintained garden.

Then, it is cool to live next to Schönbrunn, even though it is only for a short while.

One thing like about ...

Vienna is that you can walk the streets and parks without having to watch where you step all the time.

Small signs like this one are placed in a lot of strategic places around the city.

I you need to translate the words, try google translator.

Sunday walk

The weather behaved more or less during the weekend and yesterday we had a nice walk in our temporary neighbourhood, Penzing, Vienna's 14th district.

Steinhof park
We made it to Steinhof park with the beautiful Kirsche am Steinhof situated 310 mtrs above sea level overlooking Vienna. The church is one of the world's most famous art nouveau churches and is part a large psychiatric hospital compound.

I did not know about this gem before I started checking what our neighbourhood had to offer.

The surrounding park is a great place for walking, jogging ... and picnics when the weather is for that.

Corner view: Love

The theme for this week's cornerview is love, and my first thought was to find the song Can anyone explain ... with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. I'm not really into jazz, but I think this song is simply wonderful.

Here it is:

You may wonder what it has to do with either Málaga or Vienna ... well, nothing. I did try to find a jodl love song on You Tube just for the fun of it, but without success. It's kind of hard to understand the lyrics. Listen (and see) for yourself here.

You can find the links to more love cornerviews on Spain Daily or on this page's siderbar.

Corner view: Typical souvenir

In am in Vienna this week

... and I think I will buy some of these Mozartkuglen - chocolate and marzipan sweets - as souvenir gifts.

For more souvenir corner views around the world, go to Jane's Spain Daily to find all the participants.

We were too much in a rush this time to find accomodation in Vienna and landed in a one of the city's last hotelapartments without internet access, I think. Hopefully it will get fixed within the next few days so I can get around the world looking at more souvenirs.

More color coordination

Matching the background
I think this cat has placed itself to match the surroundings
