Corner view Málaga: Cityscapes - Copenhagen

The corner view project at Spain Daily looks at life around the world: This week's theme is selected by Cele and is "cityscapes.

I have chosen to think of it as city(e)scape ... I am suffering a little bit of Copenhagenitis these days, so I will show you a few photos of Copenhagen.

With the back to the Copenhagen Opera House you have a great look over the habour and warehouses turned into hotels.

From one of the balconies at the Opera House you can see the Marble Church in the sunset ...

and if you turn your head a little you can see The Royal Danish Playhouse and the towers on the City Hall and Christiansborg.

Yeah yeah, I know what they mean, but I just had to take a photo ...

Waiting in the airport is so boring and it takes so loooong time from the plane has landed until the one you are waiting for comes out ...

Plaza de la Merced

The jacaranda trees are blooming right now. Also on Plaza de la Merced providing nice shadows if you want to take a rest on one of the benches.

Simon and Picasso
On one of the benches sits Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso or just Pablo Picasso.
The handsome young man having a conversation with him is my son :-)

Malaga has two venues dedicated to Pablo Picasso, the Museo Picasso and Casa Natal, his native house on Plaza de la Merced.

Corner view Málaga: Coffee

For this week's theme Jane of Spain Daily asked a few questions:

How do you say "two coffees with milk"? Dos cafés con leche, por favor

What are the most popular ways to drink coffee? Café con leche, Cortado (coffee with a little milk) and Solo (espresso) and in summertime Solo con hielo (espresso served in its cup along with a tall glass with 1-3 large icecubes - you add the sugar you want, stir and then pour it over the icecubes. My husband loves it!)

French press, percolator, espresso, or other? Well, in the mornings it's french press - it is the fastest way:-)

Later in the day and if at home its Nespresso - right now this one is the favorite with milk in.

How do you take your coffee? Café con leche without sugar

Are you a dunker? No, I may get crumbs in the coffee, urgh :-)
Dunker = to dip (bread or other food) into a drink before eating it

What was the funniest topic of conversation over a recent cup of coffee? Oh, right now I cannot think of one, sorry ...

Something sweet for the coffee

From my old recipe notebook: Apple crumble cake

- great with a cup of coffee and really easy to make.

Ingredients:
1 kg apples (preferable the cooking ones)
100 g sugar
1 tsbs ground cinnamon
1 dl raisins
1 dl (hazel)nuts

for the dough/paste:
125 g butter
125 g wheat flour
75 g sugar

Core, peal and slice the apples. Place them in an ovenproof dish and sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, raisins and nuts.
Mix and crumple the ingredients for the dough and sprinkle over the apples.
Bake in a preheated oven 180 C for about 45 min..

Serve warm og semi-warm with a nice cup of coffee.
Tomorrow is corner view day hosted by Jane of Spain Daily who is serving some delicious cookies today. The theme this time is coffee.

House in the Gualdamina river

This is not just someone who under the cover of darkness has dumped a house in the river.

No, this is an art installation by two Nordic artists: Tea Mäkipää y Halldor Ulfarsson engaged by the art museum CAC Málaga.

The house is "exhibited" in the river until July.

Skaters on Plaza Marina

In a shadowy corner of Plaza Marina skaters meet and have fun.

It is also nice to sit or stand in the shadow to watch them perform

Corner view Málaga: The great outdoors

The corner view project at Spain Daily looks at life around the world: This week's theme is The great outdoors.

My corner is the province of Málaga which is visited by millions of tourists every year, mainly from Europe. Most come here for the mild climate and nice beaches.

In July and August the beaches are a lot more crowded than on this photo.

If you like tennis, paddle, golf, windsurfing, skiing, etc. you don't have to worry about waiting for the good weather. Most days the weather is nice.

However, Málaga has more than sunshine and nice beaches - there are also beautiful mountains to explore.

Nature walks (senderismo) is very popular and a great way to experience the nature.

Many sundays are spent walking one of the many paths (senderos) and when you meet other groups you may stop and have a chat.
Sierra Nevada, Europe's most southern ski resort is less than two hours drive from Málaga airport.

Pico del Cielo - a popular route. It is great to have your lunch of bread, olive oil, jamon ibérico and a little red wine when you reach the top :-)

The narrow streets of Málaga

3 shots from the narrow streets in the historic centre of Málaga.

A lot of the old buildings are being renovated ... it's incredible that they manage to get machinery through to the sites.

The building with the patterned wall is a church.

Not much light hits the ground here.

Burning love

In Danish the Kalanchoe is called Burning love and you usually buy it in winther time as a pot plant to lighten up during the dark days.
I never really liked this flower until now ... I planted five of them (in different colors) in the terrace pot of the Jasmine to cover the earth ...

Corner view Málaga: Shopping

The corner view project at Spain Daily looks at life around the world: This week's theme is shopping.

My daughter was visiting recently, and one of the days we went on a what we call a power shopping expedition to Málaga :-) It's always fun to look at stuff that are not available where you usually live, so we mainly concentrated on the shops and brands that you do not find in Copenhagen.

Well, Mala mujer (Bad woman) was closed - siesta time. Actually, it has been closed every time I pass by, but I would like to have a closer look at their t-shirts.

Bimba & Lola is selling very nice and feminine clothes, shoes and accessories. I just had to buy this leather cover for my IPod.

Hakei, Hazel and Adolfo Dominquez are also good places to check out for shoes, bags and clothes. And it was the last day of the Málaga Film Festival - the main walking streets were full of movie posters and green and red carpets.

Before we head back home, we have to rest our tired feet and refresh overselves with some tinto verano and a few tapas in one of the many tapas bars.

New movie in town

I love movies, but sadly I have only been to the movies once in Málaga.

Most movies are changed into Spanish and I really prefer watching movies in the original language and with subtitles even though I may not understand the language the movie is made in.

So, I do not even know what this Fuga de Cerebros "Brain Escape" is about, maybe some clever people escaping through a hole in the road with a bus ...

Above the tree tops

Alameda Principal - the busy main road in the centre of Málaga - with very heavy traffic has a line of huge old trees in the middle. Along the road there are many 6- or 7-storey buildings, some of them very pretty, especially when you look up.
